Meatball Calculator

Meatball recipes can differ significantly in terms of the number of meatballs they produce. The number of meatballs a given recipe will yield varies according to the size of the balls you shape and the amount of meat, egg, breadcrumbs, liquid, and other ingredients.

This quick and simple meatball calculator allows you to approximate how many meatballs a recipe will make and compare the yield of different recipes. If a recipe will make more meatballs than you need, you can then adjust the amount of each ingredient you use to reduce the amount produced. Similarly, if a recipe will make less meatballs than you need, you can simply increase the amount of each ingredient used.

How to Use the Meatball Calculator

  1. Input the diameter of the meatballs you want to make.
  2. Enter the weight of the ground meat you will use, the number of eggs in the recipe, and any other ingredients listed in the recipe.
  3. Click on the "Calculate" button to generate the results.

Calculator Assumptions

This calculator operates according to a broad set of assumptions, as follows:

  • First, it is assumed that 1 lb of ground meat is the equivalent of 2 cups. While 1 lb of ground beef that contains 15% fat has a slightly higher volume that 1 lb of leaner meat, the difference is insignificant.
  • Raw meat contains a lot of water, the majority of which evaporates during the cooking process. As such, the diameter of the cooked meatballs will be lower than that of the raw meatballs.
  • It is possible to make between 25 and 30 one-inch meatballs for every cup of raw meat.
