Reference
It took decades of research and testing to redesign the old Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) before it was formally released in 2019. By October 2020, the ACFT will have been fully implemented and will fully replace the APFT.
The main objective of the ACFT redesign was to overcome the primary shortfall of the APFT by ensuring it assesses soldiers against the rigors they will experience out in the field.
The ACFT represents a new definition of military fitness. It is very different from the APFT, which was basically nothing more than a two-minute sit-up and push-up test, and a two-mile run.
The new test includes the following events:
- Three-Repetition Maximum Deadlift (MDL)
- Standing Power Throw (SPT)
- Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP)
- Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC)
- Plank (PLK)
- Two-Mile Run (2MR).
